How Do I Get The Hudl Focus Camera Into Wirecast?

Pulling The Hudl Focus Camera Into Wirecast

Start Here!

When talking about running a video feed from your Hudl Focus camera into Wirecast, the best place to start is to make sure you are using an Ethernet connection for the internet.

The reason we recommend connecting with Ethernet is that you will get a much more secure and stable connection than running off of traditional WiFi.

Adding The Connection In Wirecast

Next, we can move on to Wirecast, where we want our main camera shot to be located. It is recommended with the Hudl Focus camera to place it on the top layer in Wirecast. A "+" icon will be located there, and once you click on it, a pop-up menu will appear on the screen.

You will see a list with many options on the left side of that pop-up menu. We are looking for the tab titled 'Network', and then within the results that appear to the right of the tabs, we want to select 'Web Stream' and then press the 'Add' button at the bottom of the pop-up menu.

Finding And Entering The Correct URL Address

For this step in the process, you will need access to the Hudl Focus app that should be on a device somewhere at your school. Your Athletic Director or Technology Director will probably know what device that is.

Once in the app, you will want to navigate to 'Settings' and then 'Broadcast with Hudl Focus'. There you will find two web addresses, one for basketball called the 'tactical' camera, and the other called 'panoramic', which will be primarily for volleyball. Select the best view for your event and copy the 'RTMP' address into the 'URI' box in Wirecast.

Adjust A Few Settings For A Smoother Operation

Next, you will need to change the 'Buffer' number in the same place where you added your' RTMP' address. The default is '0.25', but you'll want to change yours to '1' and then hit the 'Apply' button just below to save those changes.

If for some reason, the video pulls through but is very grainy or is tearing in Wirecast, there is a 'Reconnect' button. It might take a few clicks of the button, but this should clear up your video feed.

Tweaking Audio Settings To Match With Hudl Focus

Because the buffer on the Hudl Focus works better at 1 second, you will be able to notice a difference if you have your soundboard plugged in and have commentators calling the game. This part of the process is a bit of trial and error. We recommend starting the 'Audio Delay' at 1 second and then adjusting from there. The 'Audio Delay' section is just above where we entered the address for the camera.

If you are using a soundboard, you will have to select it and its property menu to add the appropriate audio delay.
