Camera Settings For XA10/XA11 and XA45
XA10/XA11
The Video Is Too Dark/Bright
It is recommended that schools stay in the default [P] (programmed) mode for recording. This mode controls most settings automatically and works well in almost all situations. To select recording [P], open the camera settings and click 'FUNC.' > 'Rec. Programs' > 'P Programmed AE'.
If the image is still too dark/bright, then first try using the touchscreen to select the part of the image you would like to be correctly exposed. If the image is still not correct, use exposure compensation. Exposure compensation can be adjusted under 'FUNC.' > 'Exposure,' where a horizontal dial will appear to change the image's brightness.
Video White Balance Is Wrong
It is recommended that schools use the AWB (auto white balance). To set the camera to AWB, select 'FUNC.' > 'WB White Balance' and select AWB.
If the auto white balance is noticeably wrong, then a custom white balance must be set. This is done by selecting 'FUNC.' > 'WB White Balance' and select Color Temperature, Set 1, or Set 2 for a custom value. Once selected, a horizontal dial will appear to adjust the image's white balance.
XA45
The Video Is Too Dark/Bright
The same rules still apply. It is recommended that schools stay in the default [P] (programmed) mode for recording. This mode controls most settings automatically and works well in almost all situations. To select recording [P], open the menu at the top left of your camera.
Then, navigate to the button labeled [P], as shown in the image below.
If the image is still too dark/bright, then first try using the touchscreen to select the part of the image you would like to be correctly exposed. If the image is still not correct, use exposure compensation. Exposure compensation can be adjusted under 'FUNC' on the left-hand bar, and select the icon two rows down. It is a square with a '+' and '-' sign. Then a wheel to scroll to adjust the exposure will pop up at the bottom of the screen.
Video White Balance Is Wrong
The same rules apply as above. In addition, it is recommended to use the AWB (auto white balance) setting. To set the camera appropriately, select 'FUNC' on the left-hand bar and select the icon three rows down. If it is already set to AWB like the image below, you are already in AWB mode.
If the auto white balance is noticeably wrong, then a custom white balance must be set. This is done by selecting 'FUNC.' > 'WB White Balance' and selecting the color in 'Set 1' as a custom value.
